M. Breton vit dans le Grand Nord canadien où il tient un restaurant. Même s'il ne manque pas de clientèle, personne ne l'a jamais complimenté sur sa cuisine, ce qui l'attriste un peu.
Un jour, un élan bleu vient s'installer chez lui sans crier gare. C'est le premier à s'extasier sur ses plats ! M. Breton est si flatté qu'il accepte que l'animal reste chez lui pour l'aider au restaurant.
Les clients sont très étonnés de voir un élan prendre leurs commandes, et on vient de loin pour assister au spectacle, si bien que le restaurant est plein à craquer tous les jours !
M. Breton est ravi.
Un matin, l'élan bleu se met à rédiger ses mémoires sur une vieille machine à écrire, car il s'est mis une idée en tête : devenir riche et célèbre ! Malgré les doutes de M. Breton, l'animal voit son rêve se réaliser : une maison d'édition le contacte pour publier son livre ! Le succès est tel que ses écrits sont adaptés au cinéma ! Même si M. Breton est très heureux pour son ami, il ne peut s'empêcher d'être triste : l'élan bleu, trop occupé à sa nouvelle célébrité, lui manque. Mais l'animal finit par trouver barbante la vie à Hollywood et revient habiter chez M. Breton, pour sa plus grande joie !
