Le Festival est une société galactiquement itinérante post- Singularité. Elle fait pleuvoir sur Nouvelle République une nuée de téléphones qui ne disent qu'une chose : « Bonjour. Tu veux bien nous distraire ? » De la réponse dépend la récompense. Ainsi, des armes.
Il n'en faut pas plus pour déclencher la Révolution. Et pour conduire les autorités à imaginer pour la vaincre de remonter le temps.
Et risquer l'anéantissement de cette partie de la Galaxie, car l'Eschaton déteste qu'on touche à son histoire.

Elle se réveille dans un univers parallèle proche du Moyen Âge pour apprendre que : 1° elle est issue de ce monde, où elle est née princesse ; 2° une passerelle lie les deux univers que seuls les membres de sa famille peuvent emprunter ; 3° ces derniers en ont profité pour s'enrichir considérablement à travers un abominable trafic d'arme et de drogue, et vivent en grands seigneurs sans foi ni loi.
Les incursions de Miriam, jeune femme moderne, indépendante et volontaire dans cet univers étrange, baroque et violent, forment l'essentiel du livre.
Le sujet sous-jacent, c'est d'abord les difficultés tragicomiques de Miriam à s'adapter à la mode et aux coutumes de cet autre monde.
